Established in 2005, the Denman Island MEOW Society is a dedicated team of volunteer animal advocates working together with the support of our fellow islanders and others to co-ordinate reduced cost spay and neuter clinics for both the domesticated and non-domesticated cats that share our island home.

The main purposes of this non-profit society are:
1. to raise awareness about the benefits of spaying and neutering,
2. to provide assistance to lower income individuals/families,
3. to control the population of stray and feral cats on Denman humanely

Humane and effective reduction of cat overpopulation is always a community affair. As of January 1st, 2007, 118 cats have been fixed through the DI MEOW
program, and countless new litters prevented!

Covering costs involves ongoing fundraising, and every little bit helps. Islanders can drop off refundables in our bin at the Recycling Centre, deposit spare change in our donation jar at the General Store, or sponsor a cat directly in one of our upcoming clinics. The Society has applied for charitable status, and will soon be able to issue tax receipts for some donations. We welcome all fundraising ideas!

If you have an unaltered cat or know someone else who does that could
benefit from our assistance, or if you are concerned about
homeless cats in your neighbourhood, please call 5-1209.

Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) programs are well documented
as not only the most humane way, but the most effective way
of reducing feral (non-domesticated) cat populations success-
fully over time. Please click here for further information about ferals.
